After the winter’s heavy rains, Los Angeles drivers have had a lot of trouble with potholes. About 50 motorists on the northbound 71 Freeway in Pomona had to pull over recently owing to potholes that cropped up in the road. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former governor of California, was also impacted. Video of him and his crew filling in a huge pothole in his Brentwood neighborhood was posted to Twitter after residents had repeatedly requested that it be fixed.

Schwarzenegger was spotted personally patching the pothole, wearing work boots, a leather jacket, and sunglasses. When a neighbor thanked him, he took the high road and explained that sometimes you just have to do it yourself.

The Department of Public Works is putting in long hours to fix the damage that the recent rains have done to the roads. Crews have patched almost 17,000 potholes as of April 6; the city has received nearly 20,000 requests for pothole repairs since December 30. It’s inspiring to see a well-known figure like Schwarzenegger becoming involved in local issues.
