Voice actress Tara Strong is facing a recasting in the animated series “Boxtown” after stirring up controversy with her recent Twitter comments. This online uproar is linked to her apparent stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict which became a disruptive topic.
Subsequently the creators of “Boxtown” have decided to change the voice actor for her character.
Twitter Controversy
Strong’s comments on Twitter which looked to support certain views during a sensitive international concern caused a strong reaction on social media.
These comments were seen as controversial and ignited a backlash that stretched to her professional commitments including her role in “Boxtown.”
Necessity for Role Recasting
Initially Tara Strong had lent her voice to the character Bill the Orphan, a key figure in “Boxtown.” The show’s pilot episode generated considerable excitement with Strong as part of the cast.
However, in the wake of the Twitter controversy the official “Boxtown” Twitter account announced plans to reconsider the casting for the character Bill which was originally portrayed by Strong in the pilot.
Open Auditions for a Replacement
The creators of “Boxtown” have opted to hold open auditions to select a new voice actor for the character Bill. This approach offers an opportunity for fresh talent to take over the role. The announcement expressed gratitude to the show’s devoted viewers for their support and understanding.
The tweet from the “Boxtown” team stated “Hello all! Just wanted to offer a quick update on Boxtown. We will be recasting the role of Bill (previously played by Tara Strong). We’ll have more info soon on open auditions. Thanks for y’all’s understanding as we re-orient and figure out the next steps.”
Reasons for Recasting
While the official statement did not specify the reasons for replacing Tara Strong many believe it is connected to her recent social media controversy.
Strong herself responded to the news of her recasting suggesting a link between her Jewish heritage and the decision saying she was “Fired for being Jewish” and expressing concern for her family members in Israel and Gaza.
