Disney has surprised fans with the announcement of a new Moana sequel accompanied by its first teaser trailer and release date.

Surprise Announcement and Teaser Trailer

Disney Animation has revealed a teaser trailer for Moana 2 along with a first-look photo featuring the beloved characters from the original movie including Moana and Maui alongside a whale shark. The teaser also unveiled the release date for Moana 2 set for November 27, 2024.

Director and Music

Dave Derrick Jr. is set to direct Moana 2 with music composed by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina. Disney has provided an official synopsis for the sequel promising an exciting new adventure for Moana and her friends.

Synopsis and Plot

In Moana 2, audiences will join Moana and Maui on a new voyage accompanied by a fresh crew of unlikely adventurers.

Following an unexpected call from her ancestors, Moana embarks on a journey to the far seas of Oceania exploring dangerous and long-lost waters for an adventure unlike any she has faced before.

Development and Remakes

Originally planned as a TV series continuation, Moana 2 has been reimagined as a feature film. This sequel is separate from a live-action remake of Moana which is also in development.

While Dwayne Johnson will return as Maui for the live-action remake, the role of Moana will be portrayed by a new actress as Auli’i Cravalho the original voice of Moana passes the baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent.
