Adam Sandler’s friends and longtime costars, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore, attended the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony to support him as he received the award on March 19. The star-studded event took place at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington DC and was attended by many celebrities such as Chris Rock, Steve Buscemi, Ben Stiller, Pete Davidson, Idina Menzel, and Sandler’s wife, Jackie Sandler.

During his acceptance speech, Sandler made a joke about the Mark Twain Prize being used as a weapon to bludgeon him by an angry intruder, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He then discussed how much he enjoys working with his friends and how their camaraderie makes negative reviews from critics irrelevant. “Everything we do together makes me feel like the critics don’t know what they’re talking about,” he said.

Barrymore and Aniston have both worked with Sandler on multiple films over the years. Barrymore has starred in three movies with Sandler, including “The Wedding Singer” (1998), “50 First Dates” (2004), and “Blended” (2014). The two have also maintained a close offscreen friendship for more than two decades. “So much of what any romantic comedy or film should have is that ultimate authentic chemistry,” Barrymore said about Sandler, according to the Associated Press. “Which is not because you need to be together, but you have to love that person that much. And that’s how I felt about him.”

Sandler also speaks highly of his costars, stating in a 2014 interview with Collider that he and Barrymore always root for each other no matter what’s going on. He also expressed his desire to work with her again in a 2020 interview with Hollywood Life. Aniston and Sandler have also collaborated on multiple films, including “Murder Mystery” (2019) and “Just Go With It” (2011). According to Sandler, Aniston is a great friend and works well without him, as he mentioned in a 2020 interview with Us Weekly.

While fans eagerly anticipate another collaboration between Sandler and Barrymore, Aniston and Sandler’s fans can catch them together again in “Murder Mystery 2,” premiering on Netflix on March 31. Despite their on-screen romance in “Just Go With It,” Sandler joked to the Associated Press in 2019 that it was uncomfortable hearing his wife’s enthusiastic direction during their kissing scene. Nevertheless, he celebrated their friendship, saying, “Jennifer and I are great friends. She works well without me. I’m just glad when she invites me for the ride!”
