While Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, two regular judges on American Idol, prepare to perform at King Charles’ coronation in England, the show will be without them for a short time. In their absence, Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette will serve as guest judges on the May 7 program. The third regular judge, Luke Bryan, will continue to serve. Both Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette will have original songs performed, and their covers will be performed by the finalists. Morissette will also serve as an independent mentor to the contestants. Bryan claims that both Sheeran and Morissette have a major influence on the music industry because of how often their songs are performed on the show. Perry stated that she is looking forward to playing at the Coronation Concert and contributing to the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, which works to end the trafficking of children. Richie considers it a great privilege to be invited to perform among other artists at the coronation concert. On Sunday, May 7 at 8 p.m. ET, Sheeran and Morissette will perform on American Idol.
