The Upcoming Expendables 4

Fans of the action-packed Expendables franchise are eagerly awaiting the release of its fourth installment, set to hit theatres on September 22nd. The trailers hint at Jason Statham’s character, Lee Christmas, taking the lead in this film, promising a wealth of action scenes. Expendables 4 also introduces new stars like Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who even has his own poster. However, early reactions to the film haven’t been as positive as expected, and the Rotten Tomatoes score for Expendables 4 is now out, marking a franchise low.

Mixed Reviews for Expendables 4

Expendables 4 has garnered mixed reviews, and the Rotten Tomatoes score reflects this sentiment. With 78 reviews, the film currently holds a 17% rating, making it the lowest-rated installment in the franchise.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Absence

One notable absence in Expendables 4 is Arnold Schwarzenegger, a staple of the series. Schwarzenegger recently revealed in an interview that he won’t be part of this fourth film citing a conversation he had with Sylvester Stallone. He expressed his respect for Stallone’s decision not to return.

Schwarzenegger stated, “It’s done and I’m not in it. I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And [Stallone] really understood. I did [the first Expendables] as a favor to Sly. I shot it on a Saturday for two hours quickly in a church with Bruce Willis. Sly said, ‘Oh, can you do Expendables 2?’ and I did that for a weekend. Then it was expanded for Expendables 3. And that was it. We’re going to do something together one day.”

What to Expect from Expendables 4?

Lionsgate’s description of Expendables 4 sets the stage for an action-packed adventure. It introduces a new generation of stars alongside veterans like Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone. Newcomers such as Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia join the team of elite mercenaries.

The film’s synopsis reads, “Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give ‘new blood’ a whole new meaning.”
