The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach might be playing Ben Grimm for the Fantastic Four reboot.

Matt Shakman’s upcoming Fantastic Four project is still in its early development stages, with a potential return to the big screen scheduled for May 2024. The superhero film, penned by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, has yet to announce its cast officially. However, there have been indications of some main roles being filled.

Recent reports from Hot Mic podcasts suggested that Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn are being considered for the roles of Sue and Johnny Storm, respectively. There is conflicting information regarding whether Adam Driver could be cast as Reed Richards. Additionally, there’s new speculation about the casting for The Thing.

Previously, Marvel was reportedly looking for a “fat white guy” to portray Ben Grimm, but recent discussions on the Hot Mic podcast suggest that Ebon Moss-Bachrach could potentially be cast as The Thing. Although there’s been some uncertainty as Sneider’s report indicates a certain level of confidence in Moss-Bachrach’s involvement as earlier it was speculated that he might play Silver Surfer or another herald of Galactus.

Of course, it’s important to treat these details as rumors until official confirmation is received. If these speculations are true then Marvel Studios seems to put together an all-white cast for this project, which is raising eyebrows.

While the storyline of Fantastic Four remains under the curtain. Kevin Feige, in a 2022 interview, confirmed that this wouldn’t be another origin story for the superhero team. He expressed the aim of delivering a unique take on the familiar tale, striving to exceed expectations and offer audiences something fresh and extraordinary.

Here is what he said:

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen”
