James Gunn Unveils Wonder Woman's Arch-Nemesis

DC Studios, under the leadership of co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran is undergoing a significant transformation with an array of interconnected superhero projects on the horizon.

The first venture in this new wave is the quirky animated series, Creature Commandos, slated for release on Max.

Official Confirmation of Circe’s Casting

James Gunn recently took to Threads to confirm casting reports regarding the portrayal of Circe in Creature Commandos.

Responding to a fan’s query about reports from November 2023, Gunn affirmed that The Witcher star Anya Cholatra would indeed be bringing the iconic Wonder Woman antagonist, Circe to life in the animated series.

All-Star Cast for Creature Commandos

In his response, Gunn not only confirmed Cholatra’s role but also teased other “cool characters” portrayed by equally impressive actors. The series regulars include Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr. Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, the return of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Sean Gunn reprising the voice of Weasel.

Introduction to Circe

For those unfamiliar with Circe introduced in 1949, she is an immortal sorceress deeply rooted in Greek mythology. Although she has clashed with heroes like Superman and Supergirl, Circe holds a significant place in Wonder Woman’s rogues gallery.

While her debut in Creature Commandos may seem unexpected, the series filled with supernatural characters provides an intriguing backdrop for her introduction.

Potential Crossovers and Future Plans

With Circe making her debut in Creature Commandos, fans speculate about potential crossovers especially with the upcoming Paradise Lost series exploring Themyscira. While nothing is confirmed, the dynamic nature of the DCU leaves room for exciting possibilities.

DC Studios’ Creature Commandos is poised to usher in a new era for DC media introducing iconic characters like Circe to audiences.

The animated series is scheduled to premiere on Max in 2024.
