Fans of Johnny Depp are expecting his upcoming work with great anticipation. Although we won’t be seeing him in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow any time soon, the popular actor is returning to the director’s chair after almost 25 years. Casting Al Pacino, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Pierre Niney, among others, for the biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (working title: “Modi”) is shaping out to be extremely stunning. The film, which is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and will begin filming in Budapest this Fall, will be adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, and will be produced by Barry Navidi. Scamarcio plays the role of Modigliani as he runs from the police through the bombed-out streets and bars of Paris. Beatrice Hastings, his English muse and girlfriend, and Utrillo, played by Niney, are just two of the bohemians he encounters along the road who don’t share his enthusiasm for retiring from the arts. The troubled artist goes to his Polish art dealer buddy Leopold Zborowski for guidance before the arrival of Pacino’s collector character. Depp’s return to directing after a lengthy absence makes this a fascinating production. The Veterans are presently shopping the concept around in Cannes, and interest in it appears to be high. Audiences around will go crazy for it because of the amazing performances and captivating plot.
