November 15th brought disappointing news for fans of the popular Netflix series “Shadow and Bone.” Not only was the anticipated season 3 officially scrapped but the proposed spin-off series, “Six of Crows” is also facing a similar fate.
The announcement follows the conclusion of an actor’s strike and Netflix’s decision not to renew “Shadow and Bone” due to a significant drop in viewership.
Rumors of a “Six of Crows” spin-off had circulated for years, with the team behind the show confirming its development at various points. However, after the release of season 2 Netflix clarified that while the spin-off was actively in development it hadn’t received an official green light casting uncertainty over its future.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Leigh Bardugo the author of the book series that inspired the shows confirmed the cancellation of both “Shadow and Bone” season 3 and the “Six of Crows” spin-off.
Expressing deep disappointment and heartbreak Bardugo also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to see her work adapted and thanked the writers, crew, and cast for their contributions.
Leigh Bardugo’s statement on Instagram reads: “Friends by now you’ve probably heard that there will be no season 3 for Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spinoff.
The news hit me hard. I’m heartbroken and deeply disappointed but I’m also trying to hold onto my very real gratitude.”
Bardugo acknowledged the rarity of authors seeing their work adapted and expressed gratitude for the positive experience of the adaptation.
She thanked readers and viewers for their support emphasizing that the Grishaverse, her fictional universe is better because of their contributions.
