Alabama defensive back Tony Mitchell has been arrested on Wednesday in Florida on charges of marijuana possession and the intent to sell or deliver. The incoming freshman was arrested following a traffic stop, during which a significant amount of marijuana, a loaded handgun, and a large amount of cash were found in the vehicle. A passenger in the car was also charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.

This incident has led to questions about the culture of Alabama athletics and their off-field situations, with former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles being indicted on capital murder charges in the fatal shooting of Jamea Jonae Harris. Star player Brandon Miller was also present at the scene but has not faced any criminal charges or discipline from the team.

Mitchell, who committed to Alabama as a four-star recruit from Alabaster, had enrolled in January after signing his letter of intent on Dec. 21. The situation is a setback for the young athlete who will have to face the legal consequences of his actions.
