A new rumor suggests that a sequel to Dan Trachtenberg’s well-received Predator prequel film, “Prey,” is reportedly in development. “Prey” is set to be released on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD, and this rumor is generating excitement among fans of the movie.

Last year, Dan Trachtenberg’s “Prey” made its debut on Hulu, quickly becoming the top premiere on the streaming service up to that point, including both film and TV series releases. The movie also garnered critical acclaim, boasting an impressive 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Disney and 20th Century Studios initially decided to release the film on streaming rather than in theaters, a decision that received some criticism. However, it appears the move has paid off, as rumors suggest that a sequel is now in the works for Hulu.

While there hasn’t been an official announcement, a Production Weekly listing has caught the attention of fans, indicating that “Prey 2” is indeed in development.

The first “Prey” film concluded with its protagonist, Naru (played by Amber Midthunder), successfully defeating a nearly unstoppable alien hunter with the help of her loyal canine companion. The end credits hinted at the possibility of other Predators arriving to avenge their fallen comrade.

There has been speculation about the direction a sequel might take, including the possibility of exploring a different timeline. However, the question arises whether replacing Amber Midthunder as the lead character would be a wise move, as she played a central role in the original film.

“Prey” follows the story of Naru, a young and highly skilled warrior raised in the shadow of legendary hunters on the Great Plains. When her people’s camp faces danger, she embarks on a mission to protect them.

Her prey turns out to be a highly advanced alien predator equipped with advanced weaponry, leading to a fierce and terrifying confrontation between the two adversaries.

The first film was produced by John Davis, Marty Ewing, and Jhane Myers, a Native Comanche. Executive producers included Lawrence Gordon, Ben Rosenblatt, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Marc Toberoff.

“Prey” featured a cast including Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, Julian Black Antelope, Cody Big Tobacco, Skye Pelletier, Tymon Carter, and Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat. Dane DiLiegro, a former basketball player with experience in creature suits, portrayed the Predator character.
