Ryan Coogler Unveils New MCU Project

Variety's recent report solidifies Coogler's multifaceted role within Marvel Studios.

In a groundbreaking move for MCU fans, Ryan Coogler, the visionary behind Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is expanding his footprint within the MCU. The acclaimed director, also recognized as a producer, has officially been announced to spearhead the development of the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda series, destined for Disney+.

Variety’s recent report solidifies Coogler’s multifaceted role within Marvel Studios. Beyond producing the highly-anticipated Ironheart series, Coogler is set to be a driving force behind the story of the Eyes of Wakanda series. His creative influence extends to the introduction of the character Ironheart in Black Panther 2.

This collaboration stems from a strategic five-year deal between Coogler’s production company, Proximity Media, and Marvel Studios. The deal is geared towards producing a variety of Black Panther spin-offs.

Eyes of Wakanda promises an engaging storyline, focusing on Wakandan warriors embarking on a global quest to recover missing vibranium artifacts. This mission echoes the story initiated by Michael B. Jordan‘s Killmonger and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaue in the opening sequences of 2018’s Black Panther.

The animated world of the MCU is also set to feature elements from the Black Panther universe. An alternate universe version of Wakanda’s King is scheduled to appear in Season 2 of What If…? slated to conclude in 2023.

Amid these creative ventures, rumors circulate about Coogler potentially directing Marvel Studios’ colossal project, Avengers: Secret Wars. As of late 2022, Coogler expressed unawareness of any such discussions during the promotion of his latest MCU offering.

While fans eagerly await the continuation of the Black Panther saga in Black Panther 3, it’s apparent that Ryan Coogler has secured a lasting position within the MCU hierarchy. The release date for Eyes of Wakanda has not been revealed yet, but fans are high with anticipation.
