The Crown: Is Season 7 Arriving?

The Crown Is Season 7 Arriving

One of the highly buzzing historical dramas The Crown Season 6 graces Netflix screens in November 2023 and concluded the season in 10 episodes. Now, viewers wonder if this royal saga will continue or not.

The revelation came ahead of Season 6’s debut in 2023, with Peter Morgan emphasizing the necessity of a 10-year perspective to craft an authentic narrative. Producer Suzanne Mackie highlighted Morgan’s commitment to historical context, culminating in a dignified ending two decades before the present day.

Suzanne Mackie: “Peter has said it very articulately, that he simply can’t write something unless there has been time to gain a proper perspective… And I think he’s always felt 10 years is the minimum amount of time that he can see something in a historical context, to allow him to really understand it. I don’t think he’ll deviate from that.”

Despite of high fan anticipation, Netflix revealed ahead of Season 6’s debut that it marks the final chapter of this beloved series. The conclusion was split into two parts, debuting Part 1 with four episodes on 16th November, followed by the release of the remaining six episodes a month later on 14th December.

The series finale, titled Sleep, Dearie, Sleep, poignantly explored Queen Elizabeth’s mortality, uniting actresses Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton. Despite its conclusive tone, neither Morgan nor Netflix initially planned a Season 6 release.

Originally slated for a six-season run, The Crown was set to conclude after Season 5. However, Morgan’s decision to revert to the original plan emerged during discussions for Season 5’s storylines. In July 2020, Morgan clarified that the expanded Season 6 would delve into the existing period with greater detail.

Suzanne Mackie: “As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

As fans bid farewell to The Crown, the series leaves an indelible mark, with its stellar depiction of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. While the curtains close on this royal drama, viewers can revive the seasons 1-6 by streaming on Netflix.
