The Morning Show Season 3 and the Future of the Series
The latest season of “The Morning Show,” Season 3, which premiered on Apple TV+ on September 13, has raised questions about the possibility of a Season 4 due to lower-than-expected viewership.
Starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, the series has been a critical and commercial success since its inception, addressing real-world issues like workplace harassment and the global pandemic.
Viewership Decline for Season 3
Samba TV, a television analytics firm, reported that approximately 374,000 households in the United States watched Season 3 of “The Morning Show” in its first five days on Apple TV+. This marked a 12% drop in viewership compared to Season 2, which premiered on September 17, 2021, and was watched by around 425,000 domestic households during the same period.
Confirmation of Season 4 and Beyond
Despite the dip in Season 3’s viewership, it’s important to note that Season 4 of “The Morning Show” had already been confirmed for development, with the possibility of a Season 5 also on the horizon, according to a Variety report from April 2023.
This suggests that the lower-than-expected numbers for Season 3 may not significantly impact the show’s future.
Each season of the series has had a two-year gap between them, indicating that Season 4 might not debut until at least 2025, as Season 3 continues its run into the fall of 2023.
This extended timeline allows Apple TV+ ample time to develop the storyline for the upcoming season, assuming that ongoing labor strikes within the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) do not cause significant delays.
It’s also worth considering that Season 3 could potentially recover its viewership numbers as new episodes are released, given the show’s track record as one of Apple’s most successful series to date. The viewership landscape can fluctuate, and the series may regain its popularity as it progresses.
While Season 3 of “The Morning Show” experienced a drop in viewership, the already confirmed Season 4 and the potential for Season 5 indicate that the show’s future remains promising, with a longer production timeline allowing for continued development.
