With “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3,” the popular superhero series comes to a close. James Gunn and the film’s teaser have revealed that it will be the last time we see Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. As the film’s release date draws near, members of the cast have been asked if they would be interested in reprising their roles as the Guardians in a sequel. In a recent interview with Total Film, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana addressed the issue. Saldana has stated that it is time for her to move on from the character of Gamora, but Pratt has not ruled out a comeback. She did, however, emphasize her desire for Marvel to cast a new generation of performers to ensure that these characters would live on in the hearts and minds of viewers, particularly young women. Saldana said she was grateful for her fans’ support but that she was ready to wrap up her time as Zoe. Her future is also linked to James Cameron’s gigantic “Avatar” series. After 10 years as Gamora, she has decided to step down and has thanked everyone for their support. Dave Bautista, who co-starred with Zoe Saldana, has also stated that he is through portraying Drax but would want to see the character recast in the future. Even if Marvel does produce more Guardians of the Galaxy films, they won’t be the same without James Gunn at the helm. With his next project, “Superman: Legacy,” Gunn will be working exclusively with DC Studios, making the upcoming Guardians picture his last joint effort with the competing superhero film company. The cast of “Guardians of the Galaxy” clearly cares deeply about these characters and will miss them much. Uncertain as the franchise’s future may be, one thing is certain: these characters have left and will continue to leave an indelible mark on fans for centuries to come.
