When Will Napoleon’s Director’s Extended Cut Release?

Napoleon's Director's Extended Cut

Ridley Scott’s  Napoleon, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby left audiences divided. This biographical drama based on Napoleon Bonaparte showcased exceptional costumes, production design, and cinematography.  However, it failed to meet expectations, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the promised director’s cut, which reportedly includes an additional hour of material.

Despite initial headlines of a 4-hour director’s cut to address the film’s issues, there has been no official update from Scott or Apple TV+. Reportedly, Scott is meticulously working on the cut, taking time to rectify the film’s shortcomings.

Known for his dedication to perfecting his films, Scott’s commitment to delivering a superior product is evident. With no rush in sight, the anticipation builds for a director’s cut that surpasses the theatrical release’s shortcomings.

Turning attention to the streaming release, drawing parallels with Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon on Apple TV+, predictions arise. Both mega-scale productions, directed by veterans, faced box office challenges and shared a similar theatrical-to-digital window.

With Killers of the Flower Moon hitting Apple TV+ on 12th January 2024, speculations suggest Napoleon’s streaming debut may follow 85-90 days post-theatrical release. This places the expected streaming release date for the extended director’s cut on 18th February or 23rd February 23rd, 2024.

For now, the  Napoleon is available for rent or purchase on digital and VOD platforms, offering audiences a glimpse into the epic, albeit contentious, portrayal of the French general’s life.
